Meet You Are The Ultrastar - a wonderfully unpredictable stereo multi-effect from Tucson's Discomfort Designs.
At its heart are nine micro-loopers, randomly grabbing pieces of what you play and throwing them back at you - forwards, backwards, stretched, chopped and at different speeds. You control the probability and length of the loops, but Ultrastar always gets a say in what happens next.
And that's only the beginning.
There's ring modulation, bit crushing, sample-rate reduction and frequency shifting under the CLANG control, plus reverb, filtering and multiple routing options to completely rearrange how all of it interacts.
The result can move from subtle little interruptions and textures to cascading loops, mangled digital noise and complete sonic chaos.
That's very much the point.
Discomfort Designs makes pedals that don't necessarily behave like traditional effects. They're designed to wander around a little - less like a tool doing exactly what it's told, and more like a collaborator bringing its own ideas to the session.
You Are The Ultrastar might be the perfect expression of that philosophy.
